Wedding Venue Near Edinburgh
Eskmills is a Victorian mill wedding venue in Musselburgh, East Lothian - just 20 minutes from Edinburgh city centre. If you're looking for a wedding venue near Edinburgh that gives you space, gardens, and a building with real character, without the compromises that come with a city-centre location, you're in the right place.
We're on the banks of the River Esk, a short train ride from Waverley Station, with free parking, exclusive use of the venue, and room for 70 to 350 guests. It's the kind of place where your wedding day genuinely feels like yours - not squeezed in between someone else's conference and a corporate dinner.

Why Get Married Outside Edinburgh?
There's no shortage of beautiful venues in Edinburgh itself, but city weddings come with a few things that couples don't always think about until it's too late. Parking is expensive or non-existent. Guest capacity is often limited. Curfews can be strict, and you're usually sharing the building - or at least the postcode - with other events happening the same day.
At Eskmills, you get exclusive use of the entire venue and grounds. That means no other events, no strangers wandering through your photos, and no rushing to clear out. Your guests can spill out into the courtyard with a glass of fizz while you're having portraits taken in the Eden Garden. The children can run around. Nobody's watching the clock.
You also get something that's harder to put into words: the feeling of being somewhere that's yours for the day. The mill has high ceilings, original arched windows, and the kind of natural light that photographers love. The Eden Garden has a tree-lined ceremony walkway, a decked stage, and a summerhouse for signing the register. And the cobbled courtyard, strung with festoon lights, is where some of the best moments of the day tend to happen - the confetti, the speeches, the quiet five minutes between courses when you look around and think, yes, this is exactly right.
Getting Here From Edinburgh
One of the things couples tell us they love most is how easy Eskmills is to reach. We're close enough to Edinburgh that nobody has to plan a military operation to get here, but far enough out that it feels like a proper escape.
By Train
Edinburgh Waverley to Musselburgh Station takes 7 minutes on ScotRail, with trains every half hour. The venue is a short walk from the station. For guests coming from further afield, Waverley connects to the rest of Scotland and the UK - so it's straightforward for anyone travelling from Glasgow, the Borders, or down south.
By Car
We're 20 minutes from Edinburgh city centre, 10 minutes from the City Bypass, and 25 minutes from Edinburgh Airport. There's free on-site parking with EV charging - something most Edinburgh city venues can't offer.
By Bus
Regular services from Edinburgh stop nearby, including routes 26, 30, 44, and 113. Journey time is around 35 minutes.
Accommodation Nearby
While we don't have rooms on-site, Musselburgh and the surrounding area have plenty of options for guests - from hotels and B&Bs in town to coastal spots along the East Lothian coast. We're always happy to share recommendations.

The Venue
Eskmills has been hosting weddings for over a decade, and the building itself dates back to 1812. It's a working space with real history — original stonework, high-beamed ceilings, and those tall arched windows that fill the room with light. But it's not a museum. The interior is modern, flexible, and designed around whatever kind of wedding you have in mind.
The ceremony and reception all happen under one roof — your guests don't need to travel between venues. You can say your vows inside the mill or outside in the Eden Garden (weather permitting - this is Scotland, after all). Drinks flow in the courtyard, dinner is served in the Grand Hall, and when the evening comes, the room transforms for dancing with a full bar and DJ or band.
We work with three catering partners; Weddings by Saltire, Jo's Kitchen, and Really Delicious — all of whom source locally and will tailor menus to suit you. Whether that's a formal three-course breakfast, a sharing feast, or a relaxed buffet, the food is always one of the things guests remember most.
